Courtney was attending her 5th grade class for the first time in her new town. Being an "army brat", this was her fifth new school assignment in as many years. While Courtney was a bright girl but was shy due to her constant mvong from town to town and she found it difficult to develop new relationships. As she scanned her new classmates as she looked around her homeroom, her gaze fell upon another young girl who had similar features as Courtney. The girl of interest was very fair-skinned with long blonde hair and green eyes. Courtney also saw 2 very unusual characteristics about the new girl: She had very long fingernails which were each about 3 to 4 inches long and well manicured, and she was sitting in an electric wheelchair! Courtney made her mind up to introduce herself to the girl after the customary first day introductions and did so. The new girl, whose name was Alicia, came across as somewhat cold and stuck-up but Courtney sensed correctly there was more to her attitude than at first glance so she calmly said "nice to meet you" and went on to her first class.
Courtney could get her mind off Alicia all day and night, thinking about Alicia and her wheelchair so as she slept that night, she had a dream about being in a wheelchair and going to classes in it! Her mother awoke her that following morning at 6:00 and she got ready for school. She took her usual shower but this time studied her long arms and legs which made her one of the tallest girls in her class and imagined briefly if one or more of her limbs had to be in a cast or brace. She then wondered, what is Alicia wearing that makes her arms and legs so stiff. Alicia was wearing long sleeves and pants and appeared to have socks which were like leg warmers which didn't cover her fingers, showing off the long nails on her hands and feet as well. This fact intrigued her but struck her as very weird also!
Courtney walked out the door at 7:00 and headed toward her middle school which was about a half mile away. Today, though, since it was chilly, she decided to get a ride with the school bus van, which carried handicapped kids from her neighborhood and which a young man named Tom, on whom she had a crush, drove. He didn't mind picking her up as long as no one told the authorities about it. She boarded the van and sat on one of the bench seats and looked up and there was Alicia in her electric wheelchair! Alicia gave her a shy smile and quickly looked away. The van arrived at the school quickly and Tom helped Alicia off the van with the special chair-car elevator. Alicia then tried to operate her wheelchair toward the school but as she went about 30 yards, and just after Tom drove away, some 7th grade bullies surrounded Alicia and started taunting her with names of "Fang-girl" and "freak on wheels",and tilted her wheelchair which caused Alicia to fall hard on her arms as she fell forward. There was a loud snapping noise and everyone present realized what had happened: Alicia broke both arms as she hit the hard pavement. The four bullies fled the scene and Courtney cried out for someone to call an ambulance.Courtney stayed with Alicia to comfort her, holding her and stroking her hair as she cried in pain.

The ambulance arrived shortly after the call was made, and the crew took Alicia away to the hospital on a stretcher after they splinted her arms. Alica pleaded for Courtney to visit her in the hospital before the ambulance crew cane but COurtney knew that the longest Alicia would be kept in the hospital would be overnight as her father was a doctor and was always talking about how quickly patients were sent home as opposed to the olden days. She asked Alicia where she lived but could not make any sense from her blubbering sounds as she sobbed. A police car came by the school about an hour later after it became clear that it was an assault case from the way Courtney described it to the vice-principal. They took down a description of the assailants and one of the policemen seemed very angry about the incident and was swearing softly under his breath as the report was being made. Alicia was out of school for the full week and Courtney anxiously awaited her arrival. She was never able to find out which house Alicia lived in in her neighborhood due to the privacy laws so that made her waiting seem all the longer. Finally, on the following Monday, Alicia arrived in school, in her customary wheelchair which now had a new feature. In addition to the standard joystick which Alicia always used to use, she now head a straw-like device which she had to blow into, which made the wheelchair move. As she looked at Alicia, Courtney now figured out why this was needed:
Alicia was now in a HUGE cast which seemed to cover her from her waist up her left shoulder down to her fingers, and her right arm was covered in a cast which went from her armpit down to her fingers with the palm up and the fingers covered midway and the thumb entirely. She didn't have any shirt to cover the large cast so all of it was visible. She looked down and was puzzled, saying to herself: "I don't recall Alicia breaking her legs also!" as she saw both legs protruding from a short skirt, also covered in bright pink fiberglass going all the way up her legs! Courtney ran over to Alica and tried to hug her, in spite of the hard fiberglass which made the left arm get in her way, being held up with a bar that connected from the forearm to the side of her body! Alicia this time happily received Courtney and smiled broadly as Courtney hugged her. They gave each other their phone numbers and addresses, with Courtney, of course, writing for both! Courtney happily volunteered to carry Alicia's books and help her go from class to class and to use the school elevator. Since Courtney's father was an Army doctor and was now assigned to duty in Iraq, which was deemed to risky for the family to reside there, Courtney was allowed to remain in the present town until the assignment ended for her dad. This would finally allow Courtney to develop a friendship, however brief.
Courtney spent hours together with Alicia, helping her with homework as she did her own in the same classes they both shared throughout the day as helped with the other classwork, and Courtney learned how to type very fast. This worked very well until a short time when Alicia's present casts were due to be removed. Courtney awoke one day to very sharp pains in her fingers and wrists, which seemed to be painfully frozen, and Courtney's mom Ginger had to call in to the vice principal to announce that her daughter would not be able to attend school that day. Ginger drove Courtney to the local orthopedic office and the doctor, Dr Sarah Rosen, took x-rays, which soon showed that Courtney had developed severe Carpal Tunnel Syndrome with tendonitis in both wrists and hands. The doctor took out 2 long strips of plaster, dipped them in the sink which was filled with water, and told Courtney that she would have to wear splints on both hands and wrists for 8 weeks or longer and both had to be completely rested for that length of time. The doctor, after molding the plaster splints to Courtney's hands and forearms, then wrapped four inch wide ace bandage, and covered both arms completely from the fingertips to just below the elbows. Her thumbs were also covered in the splint extensions which Dr Rosen fastened to the splints with extra plaster bandages and coved tose with cloth tape, rendering her hands totally immobile. Courtney was in ecstacy which she tried to hide by pretending to cry as she always wanted to wear a cast! Now she had two of them! A new tutor was assigned to Alicia as a different one for Courtney and hey now only saw each other in their mutual classes and an hour each day after school, until Courtney's arms fully healed.

As the next few weeks went by, Courtney managed, even with her hands totally useless, to get together with Alicia. Alicia explained to Courtney that ever since she was a yong girl, she had a serious bone dithat affected her ability to absorb calcium, which reulted in a juvenile form of osteoporosis. The slightest abng on an arm or leg or, any bone, for that matter, resulted in a fracture. Over ger first 16 years, Alicia had about 100 fractures, most of which had required a cast. Since she was a collector, most of the casts were still in Aliica's rather large house, in the attic and her own playroom, where she kept her dolls and other toys that any young girl collects.
Alicia said that she would let Courtney play with thae casts, which happened to be very similar in size to Courtney's body and limbs, the thought of which heightened her burgeoning young female arousal., omce she had her hands and wrists heal, which seemed to take so long. The splints had to stay on for a total of 12 weeks, during which Courtney couldn't feed herself, comb her hair, brush her teeth, dress herself or much of anything else. Her wrists had a constant shooting pain, which the splints somewhat relieved as long as the bandaged were very tight over her wrists and fingers. Finally, after the twelfth week, the pain started to subside and the doctor removed the splints. It was now May, Courtney's appointment happened to fall on the fist Sunday after her appointment, and Courtney made plans to spend the day over Alicia's house. Courtney's parents also happened to have a vacation to Florida planned, so they threw a party for Her the day before, and let the girls enjouy the actual date of the birthday together.
Courtney got a new digital camera and her own cellphone for her birthday and she planned to put them to good use by making some fun pictures of her in the casts on her own webshots page. Courtney arrived at Alicia's house at one o'clock in the afternoon, after stopping by the dollar store for a dozen of rolls of sports tape, which she was going to use to keep the casts on while trying them on. She planeed to spend at least a day on the casts she liked, and since it was Memorial Day weekend, she had 2 days to at least pretend to need the casts. She went into the playroom, and Alicia, who was in two long leg casts couldn't go into the attic, had her older brother
